1 (KAT) Filištínci bojovali proti Izraelitom. Izraeliti utiekli pred Filištíncami a pozabíjaní ležali na vrchu Gelboe.
1 (VUL) Philisthim autem pugnabant contra Israel, fugeruntque viri Israel a facie Philisthim et ceciderunt vulnerati in monte Gelboe;
1 (UKJV) "Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. "

2 (KAT) Ale Filištínci stíhali Šaula a jeho synov. A tak Filištínci zabili Šaulových synov Jonatána, Abinadaba a Melchisuu.
2 (VUL) cumque appropinquassent Philisthaei persequentes Saul et filios eius, percusserunt Ionathan et Abinadab et Melchisua filios Saul.
2 (UKJV) "And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. "

3 (KAT) Bitka sa zostrila proti Šaulovi. Dostihli ho lukostrelci a poranili ho strelami.
3 (VUL) Et aggravatum est proelium contra Saul, inveneruntque eum sagittarii et vulneraverunt iaculis;
3 (UKJV) And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

4 (KAT) Vtedy Šaul povedal svojmu zbrojnošovi: „Vytas svoj meč a prebodni ma ním, aby neprišli títo neobrezanci a nezhanobili ma!“ Ale zbrojnoš nechcel, lebo sa veľmi bál. Preto Šaul uchopil meč a vrhol sa naň.
4 (VUL) et dixit Saul ad armigerum suum: “ Evagina gladium tuum et interfice me, ne forte veniant incircumcisi isti et illudant mihi ”. Noluit autem armiger eius hoc facere timore perterritus. Arripuit igitur Saul ensem et irruit in eum;
4 (UKJV) "Then said Saul to his armour bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armour bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. "

5 (KAT) Keď zbrojnoš videl, že je Šaul mŕtvy, vrhol sa aj on na meč a zomrel.
5 (VUL) quod cum vidisset armiger eius, videlicet mortuum esse Saul, irruit etiam ipse in gladium suum et mortuus est.
5 (UKJV) And when his armour bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

6 (KAT) Takto zomrel Šaul a jeho traja synovia a celý jeho dom zomrel spolu.
6 (VUL) Interiit ergo Saul et tres filii eius; omnis domus illius pariter concidit.
6 (UKJV) So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

7 (KAT) Keď celé mužstvo Izraelitov, ktoré bolo v doline, videlo, že (Izraeliti) utekajú a že sú Šaul a jeho synovia mŕtvi, opustili svoje mestá a ušli. Potom prišli Filištínci a usadili sa v nich.
7 (VUL) Quod cum vidissent omnes viri Israel, qui habitabant in campestribus, quod fugissent, et mortui essent Saul et filii eius, dereliquerunt urbes suas et huc illucque dispersi sunt; veneruntque Philisthim et habitaverunt in eis.
7 (UKJV) And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 (KAT) Keď na druhý deň prišli Filištínci olupovať zabitých, našli Šaula a jeho synov padlých na vrchu Gelboe.
8 (VUL) Die igitur altero venerunt Philisthim, ut spoliarent interfectos, et invenerunt Saul et filios eius iacentes in monte Gelboe;
8 (UKJV) And it came to pass on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 (KAT) Olúpili ho, vzali jeho hlavu a výstroj a poslali kolovať do filištínskej krajiny, aby to zvestovali svojim modlám a ľudu.
9 (VUL) cumque spoliassent eum et amputassent caput armisque nudassent, miserunt in terram suam per circuitum, ut annuntiaretur in idolorum templis et in populis.
9 (UKJV) And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

10 (KAT) Jeho zbrane uložili v dome svojho boha, jeho lebku však zavesili v dome Dagona.
10 (VUL) Arma autem eius consecraverunt in fano Astharoth et caput affixerunt in templo Dagon.
10 (UKJV) And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

11 (KAT) V Jábes Galaáde sa dozvedeli, čo urobili Filištínci so Šaulom.
11 (VUL) Hoc cum audissent viri Iabes Galaad, omnia scilicet quae Philisthim fecerunt super Saul,
11 (UKJV) And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 (KAT) A vybrali sa všetci bojaschopní mužovia, vzali Šaulovu mŕtvolu a mŕtvoly jeho synov, doniesli ich do Jábesu, ich kosti pochovali pod terebintou v Jábese a postili sa sedem dní.
12 (VUL) consurrexerunt omnes viri fortes et tulerunt cadavera Saul et filiorum eius attuleruntque ea in Iabes et sepelierunt ossa eorum subter quercum, quae erat in Iabes, et ieiunaverunt septem diebus.
12 (UKJV) They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 (KAT) Takto zomrel Šaul pre svoju nevernosť, ktorou sa prehrešil proti Pánovi, lebo nezachoval Pánovo slovo, vyhľadal vyvolávačku duchov, aby sa jej radil,
13 (VUL) Mortuus est ergo Saul propter iniquitatem suam, eo quod praevaricatus sit mandatum Domini, quod praeceperat, et non custodierit illud, sed insuper etiam pythonissam consuluerit
13 (UKJV) "So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; "

14 (KAT) a neradil sa Pána. Preto ho usmrtil a kráľovstvo odovzdal Dávidovi, Izaiho synovi.
14 (VUL) nec quaesierit Dominum; propter quod et interfecit eum et transtulit regnum eius ad David filium Isai.
14 (UKJV) And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
