1 (HEM) ובן הדד מלך ארם קבץ את כל חילו ושלשים ושנים מלך אתו וסוס ורכב ויעל ויצר על שמרון וילחם בה׃
1 (UKJV) "And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it. "

2 (HEM) וישלח מלאכים אל אחאב מלך ישראל העירה׃
2 (UKJV) And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus says Benhadad,

3 (HEM) ויאמר לו כה אמר בן הדד כספך וזהבך לי הוא ונשיך ובניך הטובים לי הם׃
3 (UKJV) "Your silver and your gold is mine; your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine. "

4 (HEM) ויען מלך ישראל ויאמר כדברך אדני המלך לך אני וכל אשר לי׃
4 (UKJV) And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to your saying, I am yours, and all that I have.

5 (HEM) וישבו המלאכים ויאמרו כה אמר בן הדד לאמר כי שלחתי אליך לאמר כספך וזהבך ונשיך ובניך לי תתן׃
5 (UKJV) "And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto you, saying, You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children; "

6 (HEM) כי אם כעת מחר אשלח את עבדי אליך וחפשו את ביתך ואת בתי עבדיך והיה כל מחמד עיניך ישימו בידם ולקחו׃
6 (UKJV) "Yet I will send my servants unto you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away. "

7 (HEM) ויקרא מלך ישראל לכל זקני הארץ ויאמר דעו נא וראו כי רעה זה מבקש כי שלח אלי לנשי ולבני ולכספי ולזהבי ולא מנעתי ממנו׃
7 (UKJV) "Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not. "

8 (HEM) ויאמרו אליו כל הזקנים וכל העם אל תשמע ולוא תאבה׃
8 (UKJV) And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

9 (HEM) ויאמר למלאכי בן הדד אמרו לאדני המלך כל אשר שלחת אל עבדך בראשנה אעשה והדבר הזה לא אוכל לעשות וילכו המלאכים וישבהו דבר׃
9 (UKJV) Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you did send in order to your servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

10 (HEM) וישלח אליו בן הדד ויאמר כה יעשון לי אלהים וכה יוספו אם ישפק עפר שמרון לשעלים לכל העם אשר ברגלי׃
10 (UKJV) And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

11 (HEM) ויען מלך ישראל ויאמר דברו אל יתהלל חגר כמפתח׃
11 (UKJV) And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girds on his harness boast himself as he that puts it off.

12 (HEM) ויהי כשמע את הדבר הזה והוא שתה הוא והמלכים בסכות ויאמר אל עבדיו שימו וישימו על העיר׃
12 (UKJV) And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

13 (HEM) והנה נביא אחד נגש אל אחאב מלך ישראל ויאמר כה אמר יהוה הראית את כל ההמון הגדול הזה הנני נתנו בידך היום וידעת כי אני יהוה׃
13 (UKJV) "And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD. "

14 (HEM) ויאמר אחאב במי ויאמר כה אמר יהוה בנערי שרי המדינות ויאמר מי יאסר המלחמה ויאמר אתה׃
14 (UKJV) And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, You.

15 (HEM) ויפקד את נערי שרי המדינות ויהיו מאתים שנים ושלשים ואחריהם פקד את כל העם כל בני ישראל שבעת אלפים׃
15 (UKJV) Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

16 (HEM) ויצאו בצהרים ובן הדד שתה שכור בסכות הוא והמלכים שלשים ושנים מלך עזר אתו׃
16 (UKJV) And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

17 (HEM) ויצאו נערי שרי המדינות בראשנה וישלח בן הדד ויגידו לו לאמר אנשים יצאו משמרון׃
17 (UKJV) "And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria. "

18 (HEM) ויאמר אם לשלום יצאו תפשום חיים ואם למלחמה יצאו חיים תפשום׃
18 (UKJV) "And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive. "

19 (HEM) ואלה יצאו מן העיר נערי שרי המדינות והחיל אשר אחריהם׃
19 (UKJV) So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

20 (HEM) ויכו איש אישו וינסו ארם וירדפם ישראל וימלט בן הדד מלך ארם על סוס ופרשים׃
20 (UKJV) "And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen. "

21 (HEM) ויצא מלך ישראל ויך את הסוס ואת הרכב והכה בארם מכה גדולה׃
21 (UKJV) And the king of Israel went out, and stroke the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

22 (HEM) ויגש הנביא אל מלך ישראל ויאמר לו לך התחזק ודע וראה את אשר תעשה כי לתשובת השנה מלך ארם עלה עליך׃
22 (UKJV) And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.

23 (HEM) ועבדי מלך ארם אמרו אליו אלהי הרים אלהיהם על כן חזקו ממנו ואולם נלחם אתם במישור אם לא נחזק מהם׃
23 (UKJV) "And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. "

24 (HEM) ואת הדבר הזה עשה הסר המלכים איש ממקמו ושים פחות תחתיהם׃
24 (UKJV) And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

25 (HEM) ואתה תמנה לך חיל כחיל הנפל מאותך וסוס כסוס ורכב כרכב ונלחמה אותם במישור אם לא נחזק מהם וישמע לקלם ויעש כן׃
25 (UKJV) And number you an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

26 (HEM) ויהי לתשובת השנה ויפקד בן הדד את ארם ויעל אפקה למלחמה עם ישראל׃
26 (UKJV) And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

27 (HEM) ובני ישראל התפקדו וכלכלו וילכו לקראתם ויחנו בני ישראל נגדם כשני חשפי עזים וארם מלאו את הארץ׃
27 (UKJV) "And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country. "

28 (HEM) ויגש איש האלהים ויאמר אל מלך ישראל ויאמר כה אמר יהוה יען אשר אמרו ארם אלהי הרים יהוה ולא אלהי עמקים הוא ונתתי את כל ההמון הגדול הזה בידך וידעתם כי אני יהוה׃
28 (UKJV) And there came a man of God, and spoke unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus says the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and all of you shall know that I am the LORD.

29 (HEM) ויחנו אלה נכח אלה שבעת ימים ויהי ביום השביעי ותקרב המלחמה ויכו בני ישראל את ארם מאה אלף רגלי ביום אחד׃
29 (UKJV) And they pitched one opposite to the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 (HEM) וינסו הנותרים אפקה אל העיר ותפל החומה על עשרים ושבעה אלף איש הנותרים ובן הדד נס ויבא אל העיר חדר בחדר׃
30 (UKJV) "But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber. "

31 (HEM) ויאמרו אליו עבדיו הנה נא שמענו כי מלכי בית ישראל כי מלכי חסד הם נשימה נא שקים במתנינו וחבלים בראשנו ונצא אל מלך ישראל אולי יחיה את נפשך׃
31 (UKJV) And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: possibly he will save your life.

32 (HEM) ויחגרו שקים במתניהם וחבלים בראשיהם ויבאו אל מלך ישראל ויאמרו עבדך בן הדד אמר תחי נא נפשי ויאמר העודנו חי אחי הוא׃
32 (UKJV) So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Your servant Benhadad says, I pray you, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

33 (HEM) והאנשים ינחשו וימהרו ויחלטו הממנו ויאמרו אחיך בן הדד ויאמר באו קחהו ויצא אליו בן הדד ויעלהו על המרכבה׃
33 (UKJV) "Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Your brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go all of you, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. "

34 (HEM) ויאמר אליו הערים אשר לקח אבי מאת אביך אשיב וחוצות תשים לך בדמשק כאשר שם אבי בשמרון ואני בברית אשלחך ויכרת לו ברית וישלחהו׃
34 (UKJV) "And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away. "

35 (HEM) ואיש אחד מבני הנביאים אמר אל רעהו בדבר יהוה הכיני נא וימאן האיש להכתו׃
35 (UKJV) And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Strike me, I pray you. And the man refused to strike him.

36 (HEM) ויאמר לו יען אשר לא שמעת בקול יהוה הנך הולך מאתי והכך האריה וילך מאצלו וימצאהו האריה ויכהו׃
36 (UKJV) Then said he unto him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

37 (HEM) וימצא איש אחר ויאמר הכיני נא ויכהו האיש הכה ופצע׃
37 (UKJV) Then he found another man, and said, Strike me, I pray you. And the man stroke him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

38 (HEM) וילך הנביא ויעמד למלך על הדרך ויתחפש באפר על עיניו׃
38 (UKJV) So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

39 (HEM) ויהי המלך עבר והוא צעק אל המלך ויאמר עבדך יצא בקרב המלחמה והנה איש סר ויבא אלי איש ויאמר שמר את האיש הזה אם הפקד יפקד והיתה נפשך תחת נפשו או ככר כסף תשקול׃
39 (UKJV) "And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver. "

40 (HEM) ויהי עבדך עשה הנה והנה והוא איננו ויאמר אליו מלך ישראל כן משפטך אתה חרצת׃
40 (UKJV) "And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it. "

41 (HEM) וימהר ויסר את האפר מעל עיניו ויכר אתו מלך ישראל כי מהנבאים הוא׃
41 (UKJV) "And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets. "

42 (HEM) ויאמר אליו כה אמר יהוה יען שלחת את איש חרמי מיד והיתה נפשך תחת נפשו ועמך תחת עמו׃
42 (UKJV) And he said unto him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

43 (HEM) וילך מלך ישראל על ביתו סר וזעף ויבא שמרונה׃
43 (UKJV) And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
