2. kniha Samuelova

1 (KJV) And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
1 (B21) Po nějaké době zemřel amonský král a na jeho místo nastoupil jeho syn Chanun.

2 (KJV) Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
2 (B21) David si řekl: "Projevím přízeň Nachašovu synu Chanunovi, jako jeho otec projevoval přízeň mně." Poslal proto své služebníky, aby mu vyřídili soustrast nad úmrtím jeho otce. Když Davidovi služebníci přišli do země Amonců,

3 (KJV) And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
3 (B21) amonští vojevůdci řekli svému pánu Chanunovi: "Myslíš, že David měl tvého otce v takové úctě, že ti poslal těšitele? Neposlal za tebou své služebníky spíše proto, aby prohledali a proslídili město, aby je mohli podvrátit?"

4 (KJV) Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4 (B21) Chanun tedy Davidovy služebníky zajal, oholil jim polovinu brady, roucha jim uřezal v půli až u zadnic a tak je poslal zpátky.

5 (KJV) When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
5 (B21) Jakmile se to doneslo Davidovi, poslal jim naproti posly. Protože ti muži byli velmi zostuzeni, král jim vzkázal: "Zůstaňte v Jerichu, dokud vám nenaroste vous. Pak se můžete vrátit."

6 (KJV) And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish-tob twelve thousand men.
6 (B21) Amonci si uvědomili, jak moc Davida popudili, a tak si najali 20 000 aramejských pěšáků z Bet-rechobu a z Cóby, 1 000 mužů od maackého krále a 12 000 mužů od Iš-toba.

7 (KJV) And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
7 (B21) David se to ale dozvěděl a vyslal tam Joába se všemi nejlepšími bojovníky.

8 (KJV) And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish-tob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
8 (B21) Amonci vyrazili a sešikovali se k boji u brány, zatímco Aramejci z Cóby, Rechobu, Iš-tobu a Maaky zaujali postavení v poli.

9 (KJV) When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
9 (B21) Když Joáb viděl, že musí čelit boji zepředu i zezadu, vybral ty nejlepší z izraelských bojovníků a seřadil je proti Aramejcům.

10 (KJV) And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
10 (B21) Zbytek vojska svěřil pod velení svého bratra Abišaje, aby je seřadil proti Amoncům.

11 (KJV) And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
11 (B21) Joáb mu řekl: "Budou-li Aramejci nad mé síly, přijdeš mi na pomoc. Budou-li Amonci nad tvé síly, přijdu na pomoc já tobě.

12 (KJV) Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
12 (B21) Buď silný! Odvahu! Za náš lid a za města našeho Boha! Ať Hospodin učiní, co se mu zalíbí."

13 (KJV) And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
13 (B21) Nato se Joáb se svým vojskem pustil do boje proti Aramejcům a ti se před nimi dali na útěk.

14 (KJV) And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
14 (B21) Jakmile Amonci uviděli, že Aramejci utekli, dali se i oni na útěk před Abišajem a stáhli se do města. Joáb tehdy ukončil boj proti Amoncům a vrátil se do Jeruzaléma.

15 (KJV) And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
15 (B21) Aramejci viděli, že je Izrael porazil, a tak se přeskupili.

16 (KJV) And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
16 (B21) Hadad-ezer poslal také pro Aramejce z druhého břehu Eufratu, a když je přivedl, přitáhli do Chelamu v čele s Hadad-ezerovým vojevůdcem Šobachem.

17 (KJV) And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
17 (B21) Když se to David dozvěděl, shromáždil celý Izrael, překročil Jordán a přitáhl k Chelamu. Aramejci se sešikovali proti Davidovi a pustili se s ním do boje.

18 (KJV) And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
18 (B21) Museli se ale před Izraelem dát na útěk. David mezi Aramejci pobil 700 vozatajů a 40 000 pěšáků. Jejich vojevůdce Šobacha zranil tak, že na místě zemřel.

19 (KJV) And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
19 (B21) Všichni králové, kteří byli Hadad-ezerovými vazaly, viděli, že ho Izrael porazil. Uzavřeli tedy s Izraelci mír a stali se jejich vazaly. Aramejci se pak báli přijít ještě někdy Amoncům na pomoc.
