Gn 4, 1-26

1 (KJV) And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
1 (B21) Adam se miloval se svou ženou Evou a ta počala a porodila Kaina. Tehdy řekla: "Získala jsem od Hospodina muže!"

2 (KJV) And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
2 (B21) Porodila také Ábela, jeho bratra. Ábel se pak stal pastýřem ovcí, ale Kain obdělával půdu.

3 (KJV) And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
3 (B21) Po nějaké době se stalo, že Kain přinesl Hospodinu oběť z plodů země,

4 (KJV) And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
4 (B21) zatímco Ábel ji přinesl z prvorozených ovcí svého stáda a z jejich tuku. Hospodin našel zalíbení v Ábelovi a v jeho oběti,

5 (KJV) But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
5 (B21) ale v Kainovi a jeho oběti zalíbení nenašel. Kaina to rozlítilo, až se mu zkřivila tvář.

6 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
6 (B21) Hospodin tedy Kainovi řekl: "Proč se zlobíš? Proč máš zkřivenou tvář?

7 (KJV) If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
7 (B21) Copak tě nepřijmu, když budeš jednat dobře? Když ale nebudeš jednat dobře, pak ve dveřích číhá hřích a dychtí po tobě. Ty ale máš nad ním panovat."

8 (KJV) And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
8 (B21) Kain svému bratru řekl: "Pojďme na pole!" A když byli na poli, Kain se na svého bratra Ábela vrhl a zabil ho.

9 (KJV) And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
9 (B21) "Kde je tvůj bratr Ábel?" zeptal se Kaina Hospodin. "Nevím," odpověděl. "Jsem snad strážcem svého bratra?"

10 (KJV) And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
10 (B21) "Cos to udělal?" řekl mu Bůh. "Slyš, krev tvého bratra ke mně volá ze země!

11 (KJV) And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
11 (B21) Teď budeš zlořečenější než země, která otevřela ústa, aby vpila krev tvého bratra, kterou jsi prolil!

12 (KJV) When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
12 (B21) Když budeš obdělávat zem, už ti nedá svoji sílu. Budeš na zemi tulákem a štvancem."

13 (KJV) And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
13 (B21) "Můj trest je větší, než lze unést," odpověděl Kain Hospodinu.

14 (KJV) Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
14 (B21) "Pohleď, dnes mě vyháníš ze vší úrodné země a budu se před tebou muset skrývat. Budu na zemi tulákem a štvancem a kdokoli mě najde, ten mě zabije!"

15 (KJV) And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
15 (B21) Hospodin mu řekl: "Kdokoli zabije Kaina, ponese sedminásobnou pomstu." Hospodin pak na Kaina vložil znamení, aby ho nikdo, kdo ho najde, nezabil.

16 (KJV) And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
16 (B21) Kain tedy odešel od Hospodinovy tváře a usadil se v zemi Nód na východ od Edenu.

17 (KJV) And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
17 (B21) Kain se miloval se svou ženou a ta počala a porodila Chanocha. Postavil město a pojmenoval ho po svém synovi Chanoch.

18 (KJV) And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
18 (B21) Chanochovi se pak narodil Irad, Irad zplodil Mechujaele, Mechujael zplodil Metušaele a Metušael zplodil Lámecha.

19 (KJV) And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
19 (B21) Lámech si vzal dvě ženy: jedna se jmenovala Ada, druhá Cila.

20 (KJV) And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
20 (B21) Ada porodila Jábala, jenž se stal otcem těch, kdo žijí ve stanech a pasou stáda.

21 (KJV) And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
21 (B21) Jeho bratr jménem Jubal se stal otcem všech, kdo hrají na citery a píšťaly.

22 (KJV) And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
22 (B21) Cila také porodila, a to Tubal-kaina, mistra všech kovářů bronzu a železa. A Tubal-kainova sestra byla Naama.

23 (KJV) And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
23 (B21) Lámech řekl svým ženám: "Ado a Cilo, poslouchejte mě, ženy Lámechovy, slyšte mou řeč: Zabil jsem muže za ránu, kterou mi zasadil, zabil jsem mladíka za zranění, jež mi způsobil.

24 (KJV) If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
24 (B21) Bude-li Kain mstěn sedmkrát, Lámech bude mstěn sedmasedmdesátkrát!"

25 (KJV) And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
25 (B21) Adam se znovu miloval se svou ženou a ta porodila syna a dala mu jméno Set (to jest Náhrada). Řekla si totiž: "Bůh mi dal jiného potomka náhradou za Ábela, kterého zabil Kain."

26 (KJV) And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
26 (B21) Také Setovi se pak narodil syn a dostal jméno Enoš, Člověk. Tehdy začalo vzývání Hospodinova jména.

Verš 4

And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

Heb 11:4 - By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Verš 8

And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

Mt 23:35 - That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

1Jn 3:12 - Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Júd 1:11 - Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Verš 10

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

Heb 12:24 - And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Verš 12

When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Prís 28:17 - A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

Verš 14

Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Jób 15:20 - The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

Verš 24

If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

Gn 4:15 - And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Gn 4,1 - "Poznať ženu" v hlbokej biblickej reči značí pohlavné obcovanie v kladnom slova zmysle. V opačnom prípade používa Sväté písmo výraz "ležal s ňou" (porov. 2 Sam 13,14), čím sa myslí cudzoložstvo.

Gn 4,1-2 - Kain na tomto mieste odvodzuje sa od slovesa qánáh a značilo by ,získaného, prijatého'. Ábel je ,syn' (asyr), prvorodený syn.

Gn 4,3-4 - "Pán zhliadol" a "nezhliadol" sa vyjadruje záľuba v obete, alebo jej odvrhnutie. Ako poznali Kain a Ábel, že prvého obetu Pán neprijal a druhého prijal, nie je isté. Pravdepodobne v tom, že Ábela požehnával a Kainovi sa nevodilo najlepšie.

Gn 4,6-7 - Pri Kainovi bolo badať, že je zlej vôle a že čosi zlého zamýšľa. Pán snaží sa ho odvrátiť od jeho zlého úmyslu. Ak sa Kain neprestane hnevať, je v nebezpečenstve, že spácha zločin.

Gn 4,8-16 - Kain zamietol príležitosť polepšiť sa a rúti sa do záhuby. Hriech rodí hriech. Zo závisti zabije svojho nevinného brata. Ábel, nevinná obeta, je predobrazom Ježišovej smrti. – Aj po hriechu vraždy Pán blíži sa s výčitkou ku Kainovi. Kain sa nechce k hriechu priznať. Napokon uzná svoj hriech, lež ani teraz neprosí o odpustenie, zdá sa, že si ide zúfať: "ktokoľvek ma nájde, zabije ma" a "môj zločin je väčší, než aby mi bol odpustený". Bratovrah sa bojí svojho zavraždenia, myslí si, že niekto bude pomstiť Ábela. Ale Boh aj tu trest ponecháva len sebe.

Gn 4,17 - Henoch značí ,zvyklý' alebo ,zasvätený'. Kde a kedy postavil Kain "mesto", nedá sa zistiť. Nebolo to však mesto v našom zmysle.

Gn 4,19-22 - Kainov rodostrom má sedem generácií: Kain, Henoch, Irad, Maviel, Matusael, Lamech a Jabel s Jubalom. Význam týchto mien je neistý, zdá sa, že niektoré ani nie sú hebrejského pôvodu. Ada znamená ,okrasu', Sella ,tieň'.

Gn 4,23-24 - Pieseň Lamechova, čiže pieseň o meči, prezrádza, ako ľudstvo bez Boha mravne klesá. Už nejde o prísnu spravodlivosť, ale o pomstu: svojvoľne bude vraždiť aj pre najmenšiu urážku a ublíženie na tele. Možno, že Lamech po prvý raz držal v rukách meč, čo mu ukoval jeho syn Tubalkain, a pyšný na svoju silu a istotu prezrádza svoje ukrutné vnútro. Lamech je horší ako Kain. Kain vraždil z nenávisti a závisti, Lamech nemá skoro na to ani príčiny. Kain sa nechcel ani priznať, že zabil brata, Lamech sa so svojím vražedným úmyslom vychvaľuje. Lamech sa vynáša nad Boha, ktorý sľúbil, že Kainovu smrť potresce sedemkrát, Lamech sa bude pomstiť krutejšie, krivdu potresce totiž až sedemdesiatsedemkrát. Hrozný je rodostrom Kainov: začína sa bratovraždou a končí človekom, ktorý sa chvastá vražednými úmyslami.

Gn 4,25 - Podľa niektorých meno Set je pôvodu sumerského a značí ,brat'. Iní odvodzujú ho od slovesa šít ,nahradený', postavený na ,miesto'. V tomto prípade Set by bol náhradou za Ábela a Set by už Eve bol býval zárukou, že sa splní prísľub o Mesiášovi (3,15).

Gn 4,26 - V mene Enos, za ktorého, "sa začalo vzývať meno Pánovo", sú podčiarknuté dva významy: Enos znamená "človek" aj "meno" Pána – Jahveho. Text je dokladom náboženskej orientovanosti časti ľudského potomstva.
