1 (HEM) ויאמר אלהים אל יעקב קום עלה בית אל ושב שם ועשה שם מזבח לאל הנראה אליך בברחך מפני עשו אחיך׃
1 (UKJV) And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.

2 (HEM) ויאמר יעקב אל ביתו ואל כל אשר עמו הסרו את אלהי הנכר אשר בתככם והטהרו והחליפו שמלתיכם׃
2 (UKJV) Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

3 (HEM) ונקומה ונעלה בית אל ואעשה שם מזבח לאל הענה אתי ביום צרתי ויהי עמדי בדרך אשר הלכתי׃
3 (UKJV) "And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. "

4 (HEM) ויתנו אל יעקב את כל אלהי הנכר אשר בידם ואת הנזמים אשר באזניהם ויטמן אתם יעקב תחת האלה אשר עם שכם׃
4 (UKJV) "And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. "

5 (HEM) ויסעו ויהי חתת אלהים על הערים אשר סביבתיהם ולא רדפו אחרי בני יעקב׃
5 (UKJV) And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

6 (HEM) ויבא יעקב לוזה אשר בארץ כנען הוא בית אל הוא וכל העם אשר עמו׃
6 (UKJV) So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

7 (HEM) ויבן שם מזבח ויקרא למקום אל בית אל כי שם נגלו אליו האלהים בברחו מפני אחיו׃
7 (UKJV) And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8 (HEM) ותמת דברה מינקת רבקה ותקבר מתחת לבית אל תחת האלון ויקרא שמו אלון בכות׃
8 (UKJV) But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

9 (HEM) וירא אלהים אל יעקב עוד בבאו מפדן ארם ויברך אתו׃
9 (UKJV) And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.

10 (HEM) ויאמר לו אלהים שמך יעקב לא יקרא שמך עוד יעקב כי אם ישראל יהיה שמך ויקרא את שמו ישראל׃
10 (UKJV) And God said unto him, Your name is Jacob: your name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be your name: and he called his name Israel.

11 (HEM) ויאמר לו אלהים אני אל שדי פרה ורבה גוי וקהל גוים יהיה ממך ומלכים מחלציך יצאו׃
11 (UKJV) "And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of your loins; "

12 (HEM) ואת הארץ אשר נתתי לאברהם וליצחק לך אתננה ולזרעך אחריך אתן את הארץ׃
12 (UKJV) And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to you I will give it, and to your seed after you will I give the land.

13 (HEM) ויעל מעליו אלהים במקום אשר דבר אתו׃
13 (UKJV) And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

14 (HEM) ויצב יעקב מצבה במקום אשר דבר אתו מצבת אבן ויסך עליה נסך ויצק עליה שמן׃
14 (UKJV) And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

15 (HEM) ויקרא יעקב את שם המקום אשר דבר אתו שם אלהים בית אל׃
15 (UKJV) And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.

16 (HEM) ויסעו מבית אל ויהי עוד כברת הארץ לבוא אפרתה ותלד רחל ותקש בלדתה׃
16 (UKJV) "And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. "

17 (HEM) ויהי בהקשתה בלדתה ותאמר לה המילדת אל תיראי כי גם זה לך בן׃
17 (UKJV) "And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; you shall have this son also. "

18 (HEM) ויהי בצאת נפשה כי מתה ותקרא שמו בן אוני ואביו קרא לו בנימין׃
18 (UKJV) And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

19 (HEM) ותמת רחל ותקבר בדרך אפרתה הוא בית לחם׃
19 (UKJV) And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

20 (HEM) ויצב יעקב מצבה על קברתה הוא מצבת קברת רחל עד היום׃
20 (UKJV) And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

21 (HEM) ויסע ישראל ויט אהלה מהלאה למגדל עדר׃
21 (UKJV) And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

22 (HEM) ויהי בשכן ישראל בארץ ההוא וילך ראובן וישכב את בלהה פילגש אביו וישמע ישראל ויהיו בני יעקב שנים עשר׃
22 (UKJV) And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

23 (HEM) בני לאה בכור יעקב ראובן ושמעון ולוי ויהודה ויששכר וזבלון׃
23 (UKJV) "The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: "

24 (HEM) בני רחל יוסף ובנימן׃
24 (UKJV) "The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: "

25 (HEM) ובני בלהה שפחת רחל דן ונפתלי׃
25 (UKJV) "And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: "

26 (HEM) ובני זלפה שפחת לאה גד ואשר אלה בני יעקב אשר ילד לו בפדן ארם׃
26 (UKJV) And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

27 (HEM) ויבא יעקב אל יצחק אביו ממרא קרית הארבע הוא חברון אשר גר שם אברהם ויצחק׃
27 (UKJV) And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

28 (HEM) ויהיו ימי יצחק מאת שנה ושמנים שנה׃
28 (UKJV) And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

29 (HEM) ויגוע יצחק וימת ויאסף אל עמיו זקן ושבע ימים ויקברו אתו עשו ויעקב בניו׃
29 (UKJV) And Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
