1 (KJV) And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
1 (B21) Potom Bůh Jákobovi řekl: "Vstaň a vydej se vzhůru do Bet-elu. Bydli tam a postav tam oltář Bohu, jenž se ti ukázal, když jsi utíkal před svým bratrem Ezauem."
2 (KJV) Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
2 (B21) Jákob tedy řekl své rodině a všem, kdo byli s ním: "Zbavte se cizích bohů, jež máte u sebe, očistěte se a převlečte si šaty!
3 (KJV) And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
3 (B21) Potom vstaňme a pojďme vzhůru do Bet-elu. Tam postavím oltář Bohu, jenž mě vyslyšel v den mé úzkosti a byl se mnou na cestě, kterou jsem šel."
4 (KJV) And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
4 (B21) Odevzdali tedy Jákobovi všechny cizí bohy, které měli při sobě, i náušnice, jež nosili v uších, a Jákob je zakopal pod tím dubem, který stál u Šechemu.
5 (KJV) And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
5 (B21) Potom táhli dál. Boží hrůza padla na města kolem nich, a tak Jákobovi synové nebyli pronásledováni.
6 (KJV) So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
6 (B21) Jákob tenkrát přišel do Luzu (to jest do Bet-elu) v kanaánské zemi - on i všichni, kdo byli s ním -
7 (KJV) And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
7 (B21) a postavil tam oltář. Nazval to místo El-betel, Bůh Bet-elu, neboť tam se mu ukázal Bůh, když utíkal před svým bratrem.
8 (KJV) But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth.
8 (B21) Tehdy zemřela Rebečina chůva Debora a byla pochována pod oním dubem u Bet-elu. Izák jej proto nazval Alon-bachut, Dub nářků.
9 (KJV) And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-aram, and blessed him.
9 (B21) Jákobovi se na jeho cestě z Padan-aramu znovu ukázal Bůh a požehnal mu.
10 (KJV) And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
10 (B21) Bůh mu řekl: "Jmenuješ se Jákob; tvé jméno však už nebude znít Jákob, ale budeš se jmenovat Izrael." A tak se mu říká Izrael.
11 (KJV) And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
11 (B21) Bůh mu řekl: "Já jsem Všemohoucí Bůh. Ploď se a množ se, a bude z tebe národ, dokonce svazek národů; i králové vyjdou z tvých beder.
12 (KJV) And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
12 (B21) Zem, kterou jsem dal Abrahamovi a Izákovi, dám tobě; i tvému budoucímu semeni dám tuto zem."
13 (KJV) And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
13 (B21) Na místě, kde k němu mluvil, se pak od něj Bůh vznesl.
14 (KJV) And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
14 (B21) Jákob tedy na místě, kde k němu mluvil, postavil památník, totiž kamenný sloup, vykonal na něm úlitbu a polil jej olejem.
15 (KJV) And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.
15 (B21) Jákob to místo, kde k němu Bůh mluvil, nazval Bet-el, Boží dům.
16 (KJV) And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
16 (B21) Potom z Bet-elu táhli dál. Když už byli nedaleko Efraty, začala Ráchel rodit a měla těžký porod.
17 (KJV) And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
17 (B21) V nejtěžší chvíli jí porodní bába řekla: "Neboj se, i tentokrát budeš mít syna!"
18 (KJV) And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.
18 (B21) A když ji opouštěl život (neboť umírala), dala dítěti jméno Ben-oní, Syn mé bolesti. Jeho otec ho však pojmenoval Benjamín, Syn pravice.
19 (KJV) And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
19 (B21) Ráchel zemřela a byla pohřbena na cestě k Efratě (což je Betlém).
20 (KJV) And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
20 (B21) Jákob pak nad jejím hrobem postavil památný kámen (a ten sloup je na hrobě Ráchel až dodnes).
21 (KJV) And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
21 (B21) Izrael táhl dál a vztyčil svůj stan za Migdal-ederem.
22 (KJV) And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
22 (B21) A když se Izrael zdržoval v tom kraji, stalo se, že Ruben šel a spal s Bilhou, družkou svého otce, a Izrael se o tom doslechl. Jákob měl dvanáct synů.
23 (KJV) The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
23 (B21) Synové Léy: Ruben, Jákobův prvorozený, Šimeon, Levi, Juda, Isachar a Zabulon.
24 (KJV) The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
24 (B21) Synové Ráchel: Josef a Benjamín.
25 (KJV) And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
25 (B21) Synové Bilhy, Rácheliny otrokyně: Dan a Neftalí.
26 (KJV) And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.
26 (B21) Synové Zilpy, Léiny otrokyně: Gád a Ašer. To jsou Jákobovi synové, kteří se mu narodili v Padan-aramu.
27 (KJV) And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
27 (B21) Tak přišel Jákob ke svému otci Izákovi do Mamre v Kiriat-arbě (což je Hebron), kde pobýval Abraham i Izák.
28 (KJV) And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
28 (B21) Izák se dožil 180 let.
29 (KJV) And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
29 (B21) Stár a spokojen se životem pak Izák vydechl naposled a byl připojen ke svému lidu. Pochovali ho jeho synové Ezau a Jákob.

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
Gn 28:12 - And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
Gn 32:28 - And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
2Kr 17:34 - Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
Gn 17:1 - And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Gn 28:3 - And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
Gn 48:3 - And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
Gn 17:6 - And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Gn 17:16 - And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
Gn 28:18 - And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
Verš 19
And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
Gn 48:7 - And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.

And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
Gn 49:4 - Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.

The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
Gn 46:8 - And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.

Verš 29
And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
Gn 25:8 - Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
Gn 35,1 - Po tom, ako sa Jakubovi synovia tak nepriateľsky zachovali k obyvateľom Sichemu, Jakub nemohol sa tam dlhšie zdržovať. Aj Pán vyžaduje od Jakuba, aby sa pobral na miesto, kde mu prisľúbil pred odchodom do Mezopotámie svoju pomoc a ochranu (28,10 n.).
Gn 35,2-4 - Vtedy Jakub plní aj sľub, čo bol urobil už dávno predtým, že totiž bude slúžiť len pravému Bohu, Pánovi (28,21.22). Cudzí bohovia sú terafim, čo Ráchel vzala z otcovského domu, a tiež nejaké sošky, ktoré Jakubovi synovia odniesli ako korisť zo Sichemu. Krúžky neboli len ozdobou, ale aj amuletmi, čo mali zaručiť istotu pre toho, ktorý ich nosieval. Teda bola to povera, ktorá mala za podklad mnohobožstvo. Išli na posvätné miesto, mali sa teda očistiť: umyť a preobliecť. Vonkajšok však mal vyjadrovať vnútro.
Gn 35,16-20 - Efrata je staršie pomenovanie Betlehema. Efrata značí Krajinu plodov, Betlehem zasa Dom chleba.
Gn 35,21-22 - Veža stáda, hebr. migdal'éder, takto sa volala preto, že slúžila pastierom za prístrešie, keď v noci strážievali stáda. Stála medzi Betlehemom a Hebronom (Lk 2,9 n.). Jakuba už zarmútili dvaja synovia, Simeon a Lévi (34,30), a teraz ho zarmucuje Ruben hanebným skutkom, ktorý Jakub nezabudne a zbaví preň Rubena práva prvorodeného (49,4).
Gn 35,27-29 - Mambre pozri 13,18, Kirjat-Arbe (23,2). Pripojil sa k svojmu ľudu – pozri 25,8. Izáka pochovali v jaskyni Makpele (49,31, porov. s 25,9 a 23,19). – Jakub mal pri otcovej smrti 120 rokov (25,26) a Jakub mal 108 rokov, keď predali sedemnásťročného Jozefa (37,2), teda Izák žil ešte po predaní Jozefa dvanásť rokov, keďže všetkých rokov Izákových bolo 180. Svätopisec opisuje smrť Izákovu vopred a len potom udalosti, ktoré sa zbehli okolo Jozefa.
