Kniha Genezis

1 (KJV) And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
1 (B21) Časně ráno Lában vstal, políbil své vnuky i dcery a požehnal jim. Potom odešel a vrátil se domů.

2 (KJV) And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
2 (B21) Také Jákob odešel svou cestou a vtom se s ním setkali Boží andělé.

3 (KJV) And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
3 (B21) Jakmile je Jákob uviděl, zvolal: "To je Boží tábor!" A tak to místo nazval Machanajim, Dvojí tábor.

4 (KJV) And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
4 (B21) Jákob pak před sebou vypravil posly do země Seír, na edomskou planinu, ke svému bratru Ezauovi

5 (KJV) And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
5 (B21) a přikázal jim: "Povězte mému pánu Ezauovi: ‚Toto praví tvůj služebník Jákob: Pobýval jsem u Lábana; tam jsem se až dosud zdržoval.

6 (KJV) And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
6 (B21) Mám voly, osly, brav, otroky i otrokyně a vypravil jsem posly, abych se ohlásil svému pánu, doufaje ve tvou laskavost.'"

7 (KJV) Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
7 (B21) Poslové se pak vrátili k Jákobovi se slovy: "Šli jsme k tvému bratru Ezauovi, ale už ti jde naproti a je s ním čtyři sta mužů!"

8 (KJV) And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
8 (B21) Na Jákoba padl veliký strach a úzkost. Rozdělil své lidi, brav, skot i velbloudy do dvou táborů,

9 (KJV) And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:
9 (B21) neboť si pomyslel: "Přijde-li Ezau k jednomu táboru a pobije ho, bude se ten druhý tábor moci zachránit."

10 (KJV) I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
10 (B21) Jákob zvolal: "Bože mého otce Abrahama, Bože mého otce Izáka, Hospodine, který jsi mi řekl: ‚Vrať se do své země a ke svému příbuzenstvu, a já způsobím, aby se ti vedlo dobře,'

11 (KJV) Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.
11 (B21) nejsem hoden všeho milosrdenství a věrnosti, kterou jsi svému služebníku prokázal - vždyť jsem tento Jordán překročil pouze s holí, a teď jsou ze mne dva tábory!

12 (KJV) And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
12 (B21) Vytrhni mě prosím z ruky mého bratra, z ruky Ezaua, neboť se bojím, že přijde a pobije mě i matky s dětmi.

13 (KJV) And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;
13 (B21) Řekl jsi přece: ‚Jistě způsobím, aby se ti vedlo dobře, a učiním, že tvého semene bude jako mořského písku, nespočetného pro své množství.'"

14 (KJV) Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,
14 (B21) A když na tom místě strávil noc, vybral z toho, co získal, dar pro svého bratra Ezaua:

15 (KJV) Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.
15 (B21) 200 koz a 20 kozlů, 200 ovcí a 20 beranů,

16 (KJV) And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.
16 (B21) 30 kojících velbloudic s mláďaty, 40 krav a 10 býků, 20 oslic a 10 oslů.

17 (KJV) And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?
17 (B21) Svěřil je svým služebníkům, každé stádo zvlášť, a řekl jim: "Jděte přede mnou a mezi jednotlivými stády nechte odstup."

18 (KJV) Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
18 (B21) Tomu vepředu poručil: "Když se s tebou setká můj bratr Ezau a zeptá se tě: ‚Komu patříš a kam jdeš? A čí je to stádo před tebou?'

19 (KJV) And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
19 (B21) odpovíš: ‚Tvého služebníka Jákoba. Posílá to jako dar mému pánu Ezauovi a hle, sám jde za námi.'"

20 (KJV) And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
20 (B21) Také druhému, třetímu i všem ostatním, kteří hnali ta stáda, přikázal: "Takovým způsobem mluvte k Ezauovi, až ho najdete:

21 (KJV) So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.
21 (B21) ‚Hle, tvůj služebník Jákob jde za námi.'" (Pomyslel si totiž: "Usmířím ho darem, který mě předchází. Když se s ním potom setkám, snad mě přijme.")

22 (KJV) And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
22 (B21) A tak šel dar před ním a on zůstal na noc v táboře.

23 (KJV) And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.
23 (B21) V noci pak vstal a vzal své dvě ženy, své dvě otrokyně a svých jedenáct synů a přebrodil potok Jabok.

24 (KJV) And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
24 (B21) Vzal je a převedl je přes potok; převedl všechno, co měl.

25 (KJV) And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
25 (B21) Tehdy Jákob zůstal sám. Někdo s ním ale zápasil, až dokud nezačalo svítat.

26 (KJV) And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
26 (B21) Když viděl, že ho nepřemůže, udeřil ho do kyčelního kloubu, takže se Jákobovi při tom zápasu vymkl kyčel.

27 (KJV) And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
27 (B21) Tehdy řekl: "Pusť mě, začíná svítat!" "Nepustím tě, dokud mi nepožehnáš!" odpověděl Jákob.

28 (KJV) And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
28 (B21) "Jak se jmenuješ?" zeptal se ho. "Jákob," odpověděl.

29 (KJV) And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
29 (B21) Na to mu řekl: "Tvé jméno už nebude znít Jákob, ale Izrael, Boží bojovník, neboť jsi zápasil s Bohem i s lidmi a zvítězil jsi!"

30 (KJV) And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
30 (B21) Jákob ho žádal: "Pověz mi prosím své jméno." On však odpověděl: "Proč se mě ptáš na jméno?" A požehnal mu tam.

31 (KJV) And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
31 (B21) Jákob pak to místo nazval Penuel, Boží tvář, neboť řekl: "Viděl jsem Boha tváří v tvář a byl jsem zachráněn!"

32 (KJV) Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
32 (B21) A když minul Penuel, zazářilo mu slunce; a kulhal kvůli té kyčli.

33 ----
33 (B21) (Proto synové Izraele až do dnešního dne nejedí sedací šlachu u kyčelního kloubu, protože Jákoba udeřil do kyčelního kloubu u sedací šlachy.)
