Gn 24, 1-67

1 (CPDV) Now Abraham was old and of many days. And the Lord had blessed him in all things.
1 (ROH) A Abrahám bol starý, pošlý vekom. A Hospodin požehnal Abraháma vo všetkom.

2 (CPDV) And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was in charge of all that he had: “Place your hand under my thigh,
2 (ROH) A Abrahám povedal svojmu služobníkovi, staršiemu vo svojom dome, ktorý vládol nad všetkým, čo bolo jeho: Nože polož svoju ruku pod moje bedro.

3 (CPDV) so that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.
3 (ROH) Zaviažem ťa prísahou na Hospodina, Boha nebies a Boha zeme, že nevezmeš môjmu synovi ženy zo dcér Kananeja, v ktorého strede bývam.

4 (CPDV) But that you will proceed to my land and kindred, and from there take a wife for my son Isaac.”
4 (ROH) Ale pojdeš do mojej zeme a k mojej rodine a odtiaľ vezmeš môjmu synovi Izákovi ženu.

5 (CPDV) The servant responded, “If the woman is not willing to come with me into this land, must I lead your son back to the place from which you departed?”
5 (ROH) A služobník mu povedal: A keby nechcela žena ísť so mnou do tejto zeme, či mám zaviesť nazpät tvojho syna do zeme, z ktorej si vyšiel?

6 (CPDV) And Abraham said: “Beware that you never lead my son back to that place.
6 (ROH) A Abrahám mu povedal: Chráň sa, aby si ta zpät nezaviedol môjho syna!

7 (CPDV) The Lord God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my nativity, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land,’ himself will send his Angel before you, and you will take from there a wife for my son.
7 (ROH) Hospodin, Bôh nebies, ktorý ma vzal z domu môjho otca a z mojej rodnej zeme a ktorý mi hovoril a ktorý mi prisahal a riekol: Tvojmu semenu dám túto zem, ten pošle svojho anjela pred tebou, a vezmeš odtiaľ môjmu synovi ženu.

8 (CPDV) But if the woman is not willing to follow you, you will not be held by the oath. Only do not lead my son back to that place.”
8 (ROH) A keby nechcela žena ísť s tebou, budeš čistý od tejto mojej prísahy, len môjho syna nezaveď nazpät ta.

9 (CPDV) Therefore, the servant placed his hand under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, and he swore to him on his word.
9 (ROH) Vtedy položil služobník svoju ruku pod bedro Abraháma, svojho pána, a prisahal mu dotyčne tejto veci.

10 (CPDV) And he took ten camels from his lord’s herd, and he went forth, carrying with him things from all of his goods. And he set out, and continued on, to the city of Nahor, in Mesopotamia.
10 (ROH) A služobník vzal desať veľblúdov z veľblúdov svojho pána a išiel, a všetko dobré jeho pána bolo v jeho ruke. A tak vstal a išiel do Aramnaharaima, do mesta Náchorovho.

11 (CPDV) And when he had made the camels lie down outside of the town, near a well of water, in the evening, at the time when women are accustomed to go out to draw water, he said:
11 (ROH) A keď ta došiel, dal veľblúdom pokľakať vonku pred mestom pri studni vody v čas večera, o takom čase, keď vychodia ženy brať vodu.

12 (CPDV) “O Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, meet with me today, I beg you, and show mercy to my lord Abraham.
12 (ROH) A riekol: Hospodine, Bože môjho pána Abraháma, prosím, daj, žeby sa mi dnes pošťastilo, a učiň milosť s mojím pánom Abrahámom.

13 (CPDV) Behold, I stand near the fountain of water, and the daughters of the inhabitants of this city will go forth to draw water.
13 (ROH) Hľa, stojím tu pri studni vody, a dcéry mužov mesta vyjdú sem von brať vodu.

14 (CPDV) Therefore, the the girl to whom I will say, ‘Tip your pitcher, so that I may drink,’ and she will respond, ‘Drink. In fact, I will give your camels a drink also,’ the same one is she whom you have prepared for your servant Isaac. And by this, I will understand that you have shown mercy to my lord.”

15 (CPDV) But he had not yet completed these words within himself, when, behold, Rebekah went out, the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, the brother of Abraham, having a pitcher on her shoulder.
15 (ROH) A stalo sa, kým on ešte nebol dohovoril, že hľa, vychádzala von Rebeka, ktorá sa narodila Betuelovi, synovi Milky, ženy Náchora, brata Abrahámovho, so svojím vedrom na svojom pleci.

16 (CPDV) She was an exceedingly elegant girl, and a most beautiful virgin, and unknown by man. And she descended to the spring, and she filled her pitcher, and then was returning.
16 (ROH) A deva bola veľmi krásneho vzozrenia, panna, ktorej ešte nebol poznal muž, a sišla ku pramennej studni a naplnila svoje vedro a vyšla.

17 (CPDV) And the servant ran to meet her, and he said, “Provide me with a little water to drink from your pitcher.”
17 (ROH) A služobník jej bežal oproti a riekol: Daj sa mi, prosím, napiť trochu vody zo svojho vedra!

18 (CPDV) And she responded, “Drink, my lord.” And she quickly brought down the pitcher on her arm, and she gave him a drink.
18 (ROH) A ona povedala: Napi sa, môj pane! A rýchle sňala svoje vedro na svoju ruku a dala mu piť.

19 (CPDV) And after he drank, she added, “In fact, I will draw water for your camels also, until they all drink.”
19 (ROH) A keď sa mu už bola dala napiť, povedala: Naberiem i tvojim veľblúdom, dokiaľ len budú piť.

20 (CPDV) And pouring out the pitcher into the troughs, she ran back to the well to draw water; and having drawn, she gave it to all the camels.
20 (ROH) A rýchle vyliala svoje vedro do válova a zase bežala k studni nabrať vody a nabrala všetkým jeho veľblúdom.

21 (CPDV) But he was contemplating her silently, wanting to know whether the Lord had caused his journey to prosper or not
21 (ROH) A muž ju mlčky obdivoval a pozoroval, aby zvedel, či dal Hospodin jeho ceste zdaru a či nie.

22 (CPDV) Then, after the camels drank, the man took out gold earrings, weighing two shekels, and the same number of bracelets, ten shekels in weight.
22 (ROH) A stalo sa, keď už boli prestali veľblúdi piť, že muž vyňal zlatú obrúčku na nos, pol šekla váhy, a dva náramenníky, ktoré vážily desať šeklov zlata, a dal ich na jej ruky.

23 (CPDV) And he said to her: “Whose daughter are you? Tell me, is there any place in your father’s house to lodge?”
23 (ROH) A riekol: Čia si ty dcéra? Povedz mi, prosím. Či je v dome tvojho otca miesta pre nás, kde by sme prenocovali?

24 (CPDV) She responded, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Milcah, to whom she gave birth for Nahor.”
24 (ROH) A ona mu povedala: Ja som dcéra Betuela, syna Milky, ktorého porodila Náchorovi.

25 (CPDV) And she continued, saying, “There is very much straw and hay with us, and a spacious place to stay.”
25 (ROH) A ešte mu povedala: I slamy i krmu je hojne u nás i miesto prenocovať.

26 (CPDV) The man bowed himself down, and he adored the Lord,
26 (ROH) A človek sklonil hlavu a poklonil sa Hospodinovi.

27 (CPDV) saying, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, who has not taken away his mercy and truth from my lord, and who has led me on a direct journey to the house of the brother of my lord.”
27 (ROH) A riekol: Požehnaný Hospodin, Bôh môjho pána Abraháma, ktorý nezanechal svojej milosti a svojej pravdy, aby ju bol odňal od môjho pána. I mňa viedol Hospodin na ceste do domu bratov môjho pána.

28 (CPDV) And so the girl ran, and she reported all that she had heard in the house of her mother.
28 (ROH) A deva bežala a oznámila domu svojej matky všetko tak, ako sa to stalo.

29 (CPDV) Now Rebekah had a brother, named Laban, who went out quickly to the man, where the spring was.
29 (ROH) A Rebeka mala brata, ktorému bolo meno Lában. A Lában bežal k mužovi von ku studni.

30 (CPDV) And when he had seen the earrings and bracelets in his sister’s hands, and he had heard all the words being repeated, “This is what the man spoke to me,” he came to the man who stood by the camels and near the spring of water,

31 (CPDV) and he said to him: “Enter, O blessed of the Lord. Why do you stand outside? I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels.”
31 (ROH) A povedal: Vojdi, požehnaný Hospodinov! Prečo by si stál vonku, keď som ja už pripravil dom a miesto pre veľblúdov.

32 (CPDV) And he brought him into his guest quarters. And he unharnessed the camels, and he distributed straw and hay, and water to wash his feet and that of the men who arrived with him.
32 (ROH) A muž vošiel do domu, a Lában odsedlal veľblúdov a dal veľblúdom slamy a krmu a vody umyť jeho nohy i nohy mužov, ktorí boli s ním.

33 (CPDV) And bread was set out in his sight. But he said, “I will not eat, until I have spoken my words.” He answered him, “Speak.”
33 (ROH) A potom predložil pred neho jesť. Ale muž riekol: Nebudem jesť dokiaľ nepoviem, čo mám povedať. A Lában povedal: Hovor!

34 (CPDV) Then he said: “I am the servant of Abraham.
34 (ROH) Vtedy riekol: Ja som služobník Abrahámov.

35 (CPDV) And the Lord has blessed my lord greatly, and he has become great. And he has given him sheep and oxen, silver and gold, men servants and women servants, camels and donkeys.
35 (ROH) Hospodin veľmi požehnal môjho pána, takže sa stal veľkým. A dal mu drobného stáda, oviec a kôz, a hoviad, striebra a zlata, sluhov a dievok, veľblúdov a oslov.

36 (CPDV) And Sarah, the wife of my lord, has given birth to a son for my lord in her old age, and he has given him all that he had.
36 (ROH) A Sára, žena môjho pána, porodila môjmu pánovi syna, keď už bola zostarela, a dal mu všetko, čo má.

37 (CPDV) And my lord made me swear, saying: ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell.
37 (ROH) A môj pán ma zaviazal prísahou a riekol: Nevezmeš môjmu synovi ženy z dcér Kananeja, v ktorého zemi ja bývam.

38 (CPDV) But you shall travel to my father’s house, and you shall take a wife of my own kindred for my son.’
38 (ROH) Ale istotne pojdeš do domu môjho otca a k mojej rodine a odtiaľ vezmeš môjmu synovi ženu.

39 (CPDV) But truly, I answered my lord, ‘What if the woman is not willing to come with me?’
39 (ROH) A ja som povedal svojmu pánovi: Možno, že nepojde žena so mnou -.

40 (CPDV) ‘The Lord,’ he said, ‘in whose sight I walk, will send his Angel with you, and he will direct your way. And you shall take a wife for my son from my own kindred and from my father’s house.
40 (ROH) A riekol mi: Hospodin, pred ktorého tvárou chodím, pošle svojho anjela s tebou a učiní tvoju cestu zdarnú, a vezmeš môjmu synovi ženu z mojej rodiny a z domu môjho otca.

41 (CPDV) But you will be innocent of my curse, if, when you will arrive at my close relatives, they will not grant this to you.’
41 (ROH) Vtedy budeš oprostený mojej prísahy, keď prijdeš k mojej rodine, a jestli ti nedajú, nuž budeš prostý svojej prísahy.

42 (CPDV) And so, today I arrived at the well of water, and I said: ‘O Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, if you have directed my way, in which I now walk,
42 (ROH) A tak som prišiel dnes ku studni a povedal som: Hospodine, Bože môjho pána Abraháma, ak daríš šťastím moju cestu, po ktorej idem,

43 (CPDV) behold, I stand next to the well of water, and the virgin, who will go forth to draw water, will hear from me, “Give me a little water to drink from your pitcher.”
43 (ROH) hľa, stojím pri studni vody a prosím, žeby panna, ktorá vyjde brať vodu, a ktorá, keď jej poviem: Daj sa mi, prosím, napiť trochu vody zo svojho vedra,

44 (CPDV) And she will say to me, “You drink, and I will also draw for your camels.” Let the same be the woman, whom the Lord has prepared for the son of my lord.’
44 (ROH) mi odpovie: I ty sa napi, a naberiem i tvojim veľblúdom, bola tou ženou, ktorú prisúdil Hospodin synovi môjho pána.

45 (CPDV) And while I thought over these things silently within myself, Rebekah appeared, arriving with a pitcher, which she carried on her shoulder. And she descended to the spring and drew water. And I said to her, ‘Give me a little to drink.’
45 (ROH) A prv ako som ja prestal hovoriť vo svojom srdci, tu hľa, vyšla Rebeka nesúc svoje vedro na svojom pleci a sišla k studni a nabrala vody. A povedal som jej: Daj sa mi, prosím, napiť!

46 (CPDV) And she quickly let down the pitcher from her arm, and said to me, ‘You drink, and to your camels I will also distribute drinking water.’ I drank, and she watered the camels.
46 (ROH) A ona rýchle složila svoje vedro so seba a riekla: Napi sa, a napojím aj tvojich veľblúdov. A napil som sa, a napojila aj veľblúdov.

47 (CPDV) And I questioned her, saying, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ And she responded, ‘I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.’ And so, I hung the earrings on her, to adorn her face, and I put the bracelets on her hands.
47 (ROH) Vtedy som sa jej pýtal a povedal som: Čia si ty dcéra? A riekla: Dcéra Betuela, syna Náchorovho, ktorého mu porodila Milka. Tu som jej zavesil obrúčku na jej nos a dal som náramenníky na jej ruky.

48 (CPDV) And falling prostrate, I adored the Lord, blessing the Lord, the God of my lord Abraham, who has led me along the straight path so as to take the daughter of my lord’s brother to his son.
48 (ROH) Potom som sklonil hlavu a poklonil som sa Hospodinovi a dobrorečil som Hospodinovi, Bohu svojho pána Abraháma, ktorý ma viedol pravou cestou, aby som vzal jeho synovi dcéru brata svojho pána.

49 (CPDV) For this reason, if you would act according to mercy and truth with my lord, tell me so. But if it pleases you otherwise, say that to me also, so that I may go either to the right, or to the left.”
49 (ROH) A tak teraz, ak činíte milosrdenstvo a pravdu s mojím pánom, oznámte mi to, a jestli nie, i tak mi oznámte, a obrátim sa napravo alebo naľavo.

50 (CPDV) And 14 Laban and Bethuel responded: “A word has proceeded from the Lord. We are not able to speak anything else to you, beyond what pleases him.
50 (ROH) Vtedy odpovedal Lában a Betuel, a riekli: Od Hospodina vyšla vec; nemôžeme hovoriť s tebou ani dobré ani zlé.

51 (CPDV) Lo, Rebekah is in your sight. Take her and continue on, and let her be the wife of the son of your lord, just as the Lord has spoken.”
51 (ROH) Hľa, Rebeka je pred tebou, vezmi a iď, a nech je ženou syna tvojho pána, tak ako hovoril Hospodin.

52 (CPDV) When Abraham’s servant had heard this, falling down to the ground, he adored the Lord.
52 (ROH) A stalo sa, keď počul služobník Abrahámov ich slová, poklonil sa Hospodinovi až k zemi.

53 (CPDV) And bringing forth vessels of silver and gold, as well as garments, he gave them to Rebekah as a tribute. Likewise, he offered gifts to her brothers and her mother.
53 (ROH) Potom vyňal služobník strieborné klenoty a zlaté klenoty a rúcha a dal Rebeke a drahocenné veci dal i jej bratovi i jej matke.

54 (CPDV) And a banquet began, and they feasted and drank together, and they lodged there. And rising up in the morning, the servant said, “Release me, so that I may go to my lord.”
54 (ROH) Potom jedli a pili, on i mužovia, ktorí boli s ním, a prenocovali. A keď vstali ráno, riekol: Prepustite ma, nech idem k svojmu pánovi!

55 (CPDV) And her brothers and mother responded, “Let the girl remain for at least ten days with us, and after that, she will continue on.”
55 (ROH) Ale jej brat povedal i jej matka: Nech zostane dievča s nami niekoľko, asi desať dní, a potom pojdeš.

56 (CPDV) “Do not be willing,” he said, “to delay me, for the Lord has directed my way. Release me, so that I may journey to my lord.”
56 (ROH) A riekol im: Nezdržujte ma, keď učinil Hospodin moju cestu šťastnú. Prepustite ma, nech idem k svojmu pánovi.

57 (CPDV) And they said, “Let us call the girl, and ask her will.”
57 (ROH) Vtedy povedali: Zavolajme dievča a opýtajme sa, čo ona povie?

58 (CPDV) And when, having been called, she arrived, they wanted to know, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.”
58 (ROH) A tak zavolali Rebeku a riekli jej: Či pojdeš s týmto mužom? A povedala: Pojdem.

59 (CPDV) Therefore, they released her and her nurse, and the servant of Abraham and his companions,
59 (ROH) Vtedy prepustili Rebeku, svoju sestru, i jej chôvu i služobníka Abrahámovho i jeho mužov.

60 (CPDV) wishing prosperity for their sister, by saying: “You are our sister. May you increase to thousands of thousands. And may your offspring possess the gates of their enemies.”
60 (ROH) A požehnali Rebeku a riekli jej: Naša sestro, ty buď v tisíce desať tisícov, a tvoje semä nech trvale zdedí bránu tých, ktorí by ho nenávideli.

61 (CPDV) And so, Rebekah and her maids, riding upon camels, followed the man, who quickly returned to his lord.
61 (ROH) Potom vstala Rebeka a jej dievčatá, sadly na veľblúdov a išly za mužom. A tak vzal služobník Rebeku a išiel.

62 (CPDV) Then, at the same time, Isaac was walking along the way that leads to the well, whose name is: ‘of the One who lives and who sees.’ For he dwelt in the southern land.
62 (ROH) A Izák bol prišiel z cesty od studne Živého, ktorý ma vidí, lebo býval v zemi na juhu.

63 (CPDV) And he had gone out to meditate in the field, as daylight was now declining. And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw camels advancing from afar.
63 (ROH) A Izák bol vyšiel premýšľať na poli, keď sa chýlilo k večeru. A keď pozdvihol svoje oči, videl a hľa, veľblúdi prichádzali.

64 (CPDV) Likewise, Rebekah, having seen Isaac, descended from the camel.
64 (ROH) A Rebeka tiež pozdvihla svoje oči a videla Izáka a sosadla rýchle s veľblúda.

65 (CPDV) And she said to the servant, “Who is that man who advances to meet us through the field?” And he said to her, “That is my lord.” And so, quickly taking up her cloak, she covered herself.
65 (ROH) A povedala služobníkovi: Kto je to tamten muž, ktorý nám ide po poli oproti. A služobník riekol: To je môj pán. Vtedy vzala závoj a zakryla sa.

66 (CPDV) Then the servant explained to Isaac all that he had done.
66 (ROH) A služobník rozprával Izákovi všetko, čo vykonal.

67 (CPDV) And he led her into the tent of Sarah his mother, and he accepted her as wife. And he loved her so very much, that it tempered the sorrow which befell him at his mother’s death.
67 (ROH) A Izák ju voviedol do stánu Sáry, svojej matky, a tak si vzal Rebeku a bola mu ženou, a miloval ju a potešil sa Izák po smrti svojej matky.

Podobne prisahajú aj dnešní Arabi.
