1 Ž 23, 1 "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not lack. " 2 Ž 23, 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters. 3 Ž 23, 3 He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Ž 23, 4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. " 5 Ž 23, 5 "You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. " 6 Ž 23, 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Iz 40:11 - He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Jer 23:4 - And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, says the LORD.
Ez 34:23 - "And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. "
Jn 10:11 - I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.
1Pt 2:25 - "For all of you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. "
Zjv 7:17 - For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Z 23,5 - Podľa zvyku orientálnej pohostinnosti (92,11; 133,2; Kaz 9,8; Am 6,6; Lk 7,46). V Novom zákone obrazy ustupujú skutočnosti, veď "prestretý stôl" nemôže byť nič iné ako sviatosť Eucharistie, v ktorej veriaca duša nájde osvieženie, silu a istotu pred nepriateľom na ďalšej ceste; "olej" je obrazom siedmich darov Ducha Svätého, ktorými je každý kresťan označený za Kristovho bojovníka.
