Ž 122, 1-4

1 A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to you, who dwells in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress, so our eyes are upon the Lord our God, until he may be merciful to us. 3 Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. For we have been filled with utter disdain. 4 For our soul has been greatly 340 filled. We are the disgrace of those who have abundance and the disdain of the arrogant.

Neh 2:10 - And Sanballat, a Horonite, and the servant Tobiah, an Ammonite, heard this. And they were saddened, with a great affliction, that a man had arrived who was seeking the prosperity of the sons of Israel.

Z 122 - O nadpise pozri poznámku pri 120. žalme. Ak je Dávid pôvodcom tohto žalmu, mohol ho zaspievať len po prenesení archy zmluvy na Sion (2 Sam 6).

Z 122,3 - Kto prvýkrát prišiel do Jeruzalema, musel obdivovať jeho veľkoleposť. "Mesto spojené v jeden celok", dosl. "mesto vybudované, pospájané navzájom v jeden celok", totižto Jeruzalem bolo mesto súvislé, jeho domy stáli jeden popri druhom, a jednotné.

Z 122,5 - Inou prednosťou Jeruzalema je, že v ňom býval kráľ a tam mal sídlo aj najvyšší izraelský súd.

Z 122,8-9 - Pútnici žiadajú pokoj a šťastie Jeruzalemu a najmä chrámu, ale to všetko žiadajú vlastne sebe a pre seba.
